At the Argus Leader we check letters that are submitted to the editor in an effort to make sure the people whose names are on them really are the people who wrote them.
We do this in good faith because every once in a while there’s a clown out there who tries to pull something stupid. Today we busted someone submitting letters under two different names.
I can’t guarantee this person won’t try some other deceitful way to get his views in our letter columns. And I’m sure someone else in the future will think being dishonest is a great idea.
But I can tell you, we’ll keep our eyes wide open. And you wonder why journalists seem to question everything. It’s because we should.
