Campaigning — the good kind
I watched the Augustana College homecoming parade Saturday morning and one of the most memorable parts was that it was cold. The weather ap on my phone said 25 degrees when I woke up.
But despite that and a breeze that kept finding its way up my pant legs, it was a perfectly great fall parade. Leaves drifted down from the trees on Grange Avenue. Our small-town band looked and sounded good. I got to see Ole the Viking and a few alumni and teachers from my era.
To top it off, I waved at legislative candidates from both parties that I have met through editorial board interviews here at the newspaper. Several of them walked the parade route, propped up by the college Democrat and Republican floats. I wanted to thank them for coming out, working hard and proving that politics on the local level still has a goodness about it.
